Exclaim! Brings Beats & Rhymes to CMW

BY Cam LindsayPublished Feb 5, 2008

Exclaim! is proud to announce its very own Beats & Rhymes showcase taking place next month during Canadian Music Week. Dropping at Toronto's Supermarket (268 Augusta Avenue) on Friday, March 7, the event looks to shine a spotlight on Canada's best hip-hop, an area that's no doubt overlooked in the confines of the music industry (read: you'll be hard-pressed to find another hip-hop night like this during CMW).

On the bill is T-dot's poet laureate Abdominal, who'll drop his tour guide-like rhymes over old school beats'n'breaks for the local crowd's amusement; Notes To Self, a colourful crew of Toronto juggernauts that bring hip-hop full circle; Winnipeg's Grand Analog, doing his Peg City home proud with an eclectic palette of genres; Kitchener's Justis, a young talent conceiving "modern hip hop music for people who dance, listen, love and live"; and DJ John Kong (Do Right!) and DJ Catalist spinning the best in funk, hip-hop and boogie.

Here is the official info (click on the artist's name to visit their MySpace page):
