Ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has announced a new live date with his eponymous band Newsted, marking the first performance by the project in nearly 10 years.

As Blabbermouth points out, Newsted will take the stage for the first time in nearly a decade on May 20 at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Original members Jesus Mendez Jr. (drums) and Jessie Farnsworth (guitar) will join frontman Newsted and new guitarist Humberto Perez at the "exclusive North American appearance."

Since Newsted — who has also made heavy metal thunder with Voivod and Flotsam and Jetsam — has been off social media since 2014, you can find the official announcement via the venue below. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday (April 21) at 10 a.m. local time.

Active from 2012 through 2014, Newsted delivered a lone studio album in 2013's Heavy Metal Music, due to celebrate its tenth anniversary this August. In an 8/10 review of the record, Exclaim! called it "no B.S. heavy metal."

In 2016, Newsted explained his decision to shelve the project, telling Billboard, "I was trying to take on too much stuff at once. You can only do so much and make it work right. I won't call [the band] over 'cause I did write a whole 'nother record, but it just hasn't been put together. It hasn't been recorded all the way. It's not ready for the people. That's something that's just on the backburner right now."

Newsted, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 as a member of Metallica, was involved with that group's anniversary celebrations for Metallica — known best as The Black Album — in 2021.
