Evolution

Unnatural Selection

BY Romina WendellPublished Feb 1, 2003

Veteran London producers Barry Jamieson and James Sutton layer rolling bass lines and tech-edged rhythms on to both ambient and anthemic soundscapes on their debut artist album under the moniker Evolution. Unnatural Selection drives their melodically bombastic club savvy sound through humming space-scapes, ambient interludes and sweeping rhythms, occasionally reaching pure electro-orchestral heights. The sci-fi techno drive itself peaks quickly with the most minimal and also catchiest track "Walking on Fire," which features Jayna Hanna's ethereal vocals over metronomic and striking tech/trance beats. The rest of Unnatural Selection settles into a harmonic tech trance/groove, sporting rhythms and sounds diverse enough to maintain Evolution's well-crafted "future of club" vibe.
