Brampton's own EverythingOShauN is one of those artists that everyone seems to be talking about lately. Surfing the current wave of trap-soul that acts like Bryson Tiller have been pushing into the industry spotlight, he's winning over fans locally and across the border with his carefully curated sound. Almost Everything, his sophomore EP, is a light listen with six songs that are heavy on vibes — and mostly orchestrated by Xpress, aka DJXP, who also works extensively with Toronto singer Staasia Daniels.
Production duties are only shared on "Pylons," which is co-produced by the Grammy Award-winning Frank Dukes (who's worked with Drake, Travis Scott and more) and underrated Toronto talent SlwJmz, who takes the reins on EP closer "Fruits," a standout. The latter track finds ShauN taking a slightly different approach — more hip-hop-driven than the other tracks. The song, with its super sexy flute sample, has a thick, down-South aesthetic reminiscent of OutKast's "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik." "Closing In," which he released as a hypnotizing visual earlier in August, is another clear standout on the EP, elegantly chronicling the decline of a relationship.
Coming off a successful debut EP, Until Now, and an impressive list of high-profile festival appearances, EverythingOShauN had a lot of eyes on him — and as a second strategic step, Almost Everything delivers. While he fails to break any uncharted territory creatively, he's more than found his niche, and the results are beautiful.
