Estrus Sessions: Brown Queenie Yeh-Yeh EP

BY Craig DanielsPublished Sep 1, 1999

The title track of this three-song seven-inch EP, a heavy and fuzzy ‘60s blooze-based grinder, has a bleary muddy sound that suits scuzz rock just fine. Unfortunately, the flip duo from the self described Japanese “god dumb band” don’t work nearly as well. “Hey Annie” is built on a lurching semi-riff, that sounds a tad like many of the Chicago noise/riff bands, and “Red/Green,” not about the Canuck TV icon, is sorta like Mudhoney crossed with Foghat. The incoherent vocals aren’t much of help either.
