'Daemonum' (EP stream)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Oct 17, 2014

While it's definitely getting to be that time of year where we just start flipping back and forth between "Monster Mash" and John Carpenter's Halloween score, there's something to be said for spicing up your spooky holiday playlist. If you're looking to give something new a try, check out freaky Texas soundscaper Espectrostatic's new Daemonum EP.

The five-song set summons up all sorts of spectral sounds. Woeful woodwinds and sinister strings swell up through the damned dreary "Postcard from a Dead Colleague," while "The 447" plays the Carpenter card with its ominous, mind-bendingly minimalist synth oscillations. If you feel like braving a ride on the back of the titular dark horse of "The Coal Black Stag" you'll apparently have to be okay with daunting doom-country arrangements and the frightening clink of a ferrier's iron.

Take a walk on the darkside and give Daemonum a listen via the player down below. You can also pick it up for the price point of your choice over here.
