Having previously dialled up her own version of "Hotline Bling," neo-soul singer Erykah Badu is now putting her "Phone Down" by sharing a new track.
This cut comes from Badu's upcoming upcoming mixtape BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE. It's a mellow, atmospheric number in which Badu delivers variations on the phrase "I can make you put your phone down." This is done above head-bobbing drum machine grooves, and spacious synth textures with hints of psych wooziness.
Badu posted the song on SoundCloud along with the message, "this ones for Aubrey…" This could either refer to Aubrey Graham, a.k.a. Drake (whose "Hotline Bling" Badu recently reworked), or Aubrey Davis, who helped out with writing this song.
BUT YOU CAINT USE MY PHONE is expected out on Thanksgiving weekend (which in the U.S. starts on November 26).
