Erin Passmore

Downtown

BY Randi BeersPublished Feb 28, 2012

Erin Passmore (of Regina darlings Rah Rah fame) has released her first EP, Downtown. At eight tracks in length, the EP swings from fun, listenable pop rock, à la Rah Rah ("Into the Woods"), to heartbreaking piano balladry ("Married") to moody, atmospheric melodrama ("Sad Song"). Passmore's obvious strength lies in her vocal delivery, which oscillates between tempered huskiness and the soaring power that comes out in her high notes. Downtown was recorded with the help of a slew of young Canadian icons, such as Tim D'eon and Lowell Campbell (Wintersleep), Pat Sayers (Young Galaxy) and Mara Pellerin (Gramercy Riffs). It was produced by Matt Lederman, who's lent his help to Holy Fuck, Patrick Watson and the Besnard Lakes. It's no surprise that the 24-year-old Passmore, with her pop-rich history with Rah Rah and a little help from her friends, has been able to produce such a quality solo EP.
