Published May 15, 2013Nine Inch Nails may be heading out around the world this year for some reunion dates, but bassist Eric Avery won't be along for the ride. He announced today (May 15) that he's left the band.
Using Facebook, Avery confirmed he will no longer be hitting the road with Trent Reznor and co., citing his busy schedule playing bass for Garbage and film work as a few of the reasons for leaving.
It's with very mixed emotions I tell you all that I'm pulling out of NIN. I know. It's been a tough call and i don't know if it's the right one. but i really want to focus on my musical life here in la, on film work in particular. as the tour dates kept growing… I just got overwhelmed. I just got home from a year of heavy travel with garbage, the idea of leaving town for another year and a half, and with all the intensity that nails demands… fortunately my friend Trent understands all this and appreciated my pulling the plug now instead of deep into 2013 and 14. go get em gentlemen.
Reznor hasn't commented on Avery's departure yet, though he did retweet the announcement. A replacement has yet to be named. The former Jane's Addiction bassist had joined Nine Inch Nails' live band in 2009. The current NIN lineup is filled out by Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Joshua Eustis, and Ilan Rubin.
