It appears that Australian weird pop duo Empire of the Sun are now down to a one-man operation, as the group's Luke Steele has revealed that his partner in crime, Nick Littlemore, has been absent for over five months.
"Last I heard he's in Canada and then he's in Vegas. But as my dad always says, 'You've got to keep the show on the road,'" ABC News quotes Steele as saying.
When asked if Littlemore was out of the band, Steele simply replied, "I really don't know. Hey, he's just left me with the baby."
Apparently, Littlemore was MIA during Empire of the Sun's recent photo shoots and Steele is the only member featured in current publicity shots.
By the looks of things, Steele, who took a break from the project himself earlier this year to get some needed rest, will also be performing without Littlemore during the band's upcoming Australian dates, which mark Empire of the Sun's first live performances ever.
Despite all the added pressure, Steele says he has almost written the next album by his other project, the Sleepy Jackson, and even has started work on new Empire of the Sun songs, once again presumably without Littlemore. "I think my middle name should be 'workaholic.' It never stops," he said.
Empire of the Sun's Aussie live dates kick off this Saturday (September 26) in Brisbane, with Steele saying he plans to take the tour overseas next year.
