Published Jul 29, 2011Earlier this year, Eminem filed a lawsuit against Audi for ripping off his 8 Mile hit "Lose Yourself" in a recent European ad campaign. The original track was featured prominently in a Detroit-based Chrysler ad, while the German auto manufacturer made a very close imitation for its clip. Now, Em and Audi have reached a settlement.
The Detroit Free Press [via AllHipHop] reports that both parties have made an agreement. While details were not revealed, the statement calls for Audi to "support the revitalization of Detroit by contributing to selected social projects."
No specific organizations were named, but the deal will coincide with Eminem's Imported From Detroit project, of which Chrysler is also involved. "We're looking forward to working with Chrysler on several new Imported From Detroit initiatives that will benefit the city of Detroit as well as charities within the city," said Eminem representative Joel Martin.
A statement from Audi admitted the company never meant any offence to the rapper, saying, "Audi has tremendous respect for Eminem and his works and likewise for the Imported From Detroit campaign which was created by Chrysler... Certainly Audi would never wish to insult or harm those parties or their fans and customers."
The offending ad, which never aired in North America, can be viewed below.
