EMA Signs to Matador for 'The Future's Void' LP, Shares New Single

BY Alex HudsonPublished Dec 11, 2013

EMA's popularity exploded in 2011 when she released her album Past Life Martyred Saints on Souterrain Transmissions, and now the songwriter also known as Erika M. Anderson is back with a new LP and a new record deal. She's signed with Matador, who will release her album The Future's Void in early 2014. The European release will be handled by City Slang.

Details surrounding the new album — such as tracklist, cover art and release date — are still under wraps, but fans can tide themselves over with the dark, jarring new single "Satellite." A very simple video is below; a proper music video will follow in 2014. The song is also available to purchase on iTunes.

Like Past Life Martyred Saints, the new single — and presumably the rest of the album as well — was recorded DIY-style by EMA with help from Leif Shackelford. According to an announcement from the label, "The track also introduces us to some of the new album's metaphysical themes, of struggling to understand where we fit in the digital age and where we are all headed."

Hear the song below, and stay tuned for more updates about The Future's Void.
