Elliott Smith Documentary Gets Extended DVD/Blu-ray Release

After hitting the film fest circuit in 2014 and receiving a limited theatre run earlier this month, Elliott Smith documentary Heaven Adores You will now be landing on DVD and Blu-ray. Your home entertainment systems can start screening the film July 17 via Eagle Rock Entertainment.

As previously reported, filmmaker Nickolas Rossi's Heaven Adores You observes the life and times of beloved Pacific Northwest singer-songwriter Smith, from his early indie days, to breaking through to the mainstream via his contributions to the Good Will Hunting soundtrack, through to his tragic suicide in 2003. The film analyzes Smith through different time periods, when he lived in Portland, New York and Los Angeles, and uses previously unheard music, private photos and archival footage.

The DVD and Blu-ray releases feature the film proper, but also include a bonus performance of "Heaven Adores You" by Earlimart member Aaron Espinoza, as well as an hour of extended interviews with contributors to the film. Though the extra footage wasn't detailed, figures interviewed for the movie included Jon Brion, Larry Crane, Rob Schnapf, Slim Moon and Smith's sister Ashley, among others.
