Belle and Sebastian leader Stuart Murdoch's God Help the Girl project is a few years old now, but the songwriter is still planning to turn his 2009 album into a musical film. Having raced past his Kickstarter campaign goal and raising a whopping $121,084 for the movie, Murdoch is now in talks to get some big names to appear.

According to Variety, successful teen star Elle Fanning is in negotiations to play the supporting role of Cass. The actress previously starred in major Hollywood pictures like Super 8, We Bought a Zoo and Somewhere. She's the younger sister of Dakota Fanning.

What's more, English actor Olly Alexander is in talks to take one of the film's other supporting roles, James. He's previously been in films like Enter the Void, Bright Star and Gulliver's Travels.

There's still no word as to who will be playing the starring role of Eve (the titular Girl), but writer/director Murdoch had better hurry up and pick someone, since the film in scheduled to begin shooting in Glasgow in June.

God Help the Girl is being produced by Barry Mendel Productions, and its Kickstarter campaign describes it as being about "a girl called Eve who is in hospital dealing with some emotional problems and starts writing songs as a way of getting better."
