Electric Wire Hustle

"Chaser"

Apparently taking their name from a track from Common's much-maligned Electric Circus album, this New Zealand trio might set off alarm bells for some. But an unbiased approach to their music proves nothing could be further from the truth.

Comprised of multi-instrumentalist and producer Dave 'Taay Ninh' Wright, drummer Myele Manzanza and guitarist/vocalist Mara TK (who participated in Toronto's edition of the Red Bull Music Academy in 2007), Electric Wire Hustle's brand of futuristic soul is starting to garner plenty of attention. And with the likes of Georgia Anne Muldrow, Steve Spacek and Stacey Epps on board for the self-titled album the group just released in New Zealand they're obviously rapidly gaining the respect of their peers too.

"Chaser" is an example of why this is the case. Mara TK's layered vocals over an uptight hypnotic jam and latent city noise demands repeated plays.
