Published Jun 01, 2010When El Guincho's album Alegranza! made it overseas in 2008, the Spanish experimentalist earned a widespread following with his psychedelic world pop sound. He's due to release the follow-up this fall, and in the meantime, he will tide fans over with a series of twelve-inch EPs featuring his own interpretations of South American standards and lost classics.
The series is called Piratas De Sudamérica, and you can listen to the first volume streaming now over here. It's sure to please fans of Alegranza! with its summery blend of Latin rhythms, tropical instrumentatio, and catchy melodies that will make you want to sing along even if you don't speak Spanish.
Check out the tracklist of the first EP below. Young Turks will release a limited run of 500 vinyl copies on July 13. If you'd like to pre-order one now, you can do so here.
