It's been a couple of years since psych-folk ensemble Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros released their latest album (2013's self-titled effort), but they've got a new LP due out early next year. While the full details of the collection have yet to be confirmed, they've just rolled out a new tune called "Hot Coals."
The track is a sprawling seven-minute epic that begins with gentle acoustic plucking and frontman Alex Ebert's quirky, fragile falsetto. The arrangement takes a few twists and turns along the way, as it incorporates slinky cabaret piano, atmospherically mournful horns and wistful folk-rock crescendos.
In a statement, Ebert said, "We've been on for a while now, but it's like we just turned on a new page in the old book with the inscription: serve your power and work beyond reason."
