Edmonton is getting a brand new festival this winter with Winterruption YEG, and organizers have revealed the artists joining their inaugural lineup.
Going down from January 23 to 26 at various venues in downtown Edmonton, the festival will be headlined by Wu-Tang Clan member GZA performing Liquid Swords for its 25th-anniversary, Ezra Furman, No Age, Coleman Hell, Partner, Bully and Begonia.
A kickoff event will also see performances from Weaves, Eamon McGrath, Girlfriend Material and Bodega.
Other artists and events announced include Alberta Music's 35th anniversary show, Jennifer Castle, Dboy, Hannah Epperson, Nuela Charles, Blessed, Wares, Too Soon Monsoon, Iron Tusk, 36?, the Hearts, Kathleen McGee, Tzadeka, Mourainè, Rosina Cove, Electric Audrey 2, Josh Sahunta, Electricity for Everybody! and Super Duty Tough Work.
UPDATE (12/02, 12 p.m. EST): The festival has now added 25 more artists to its lineup. These include Prince Innocence, Raygun Cowboys, Broadway Calls, Matthew Cardinal, the Dice Cubes, the California Cure, Marlaena Moore, Jet Power, Ntwali, the Faps, Feed Dogs, Slut Prophet, Good Rumour, Shag, Sunglaciers, Mickey Green, Dylan Ella, Jenesia, twig, Counterfeit Jeans, Keltie, Carter & the Capitals, Cristian de La Luna, Iron Eyes, and Lindsey Walker & David Jay - the Spaniard, among others.
In addition to music, the event will also host art and comedy events, including author, actor and stand-up comedian Brian Posehn. The festival is set to take place at venues across the city including the Starlite Room, Freemasons Hall, Rocky Mountain Icehouse, Station on Jasper and more, plus an outdoor event in Abbey Glen Park.
"I hope people enjoy the diverse and inclusive line-up we've programmed for 2020, and everyone is set for some fun in and out of the winter snow. I couldn't be happier with the artists that have agreed to perform, and the local and national partnership support for this first time out of the gate," said festival producer Brent Oliver in a statement.
Festival wristbands and select shows go on sale Friday (November 8) at 10 a.m. MST and can be purchased here. Limited festival wristbands are going for $45, with other events ranging from free to $32.50.
