Edmonton's Travis Bretzer Signs with Mexican Summer, Preps New EP

BY Josiah HughesPublished May 31, 2013

From the same off-kilter Edmonton pop scene that birthed Mac DeMarco, Alex Calder and, at one point, Sean Nicholas Savage, smooth guitar rocker Travis Bretzer has been plugging away at a music career without relocating to Montreal like his peers. That's paid off, as the artist has signed with indie powerhouse Mexican Summer.

The label, which is also home to Best Coast and No Joy, among others, will release his new EP Making Love on July 23. Bretzer previously released the underrated pop full-length Saucy Tasters in 2010.

Below, you can check out "Trying to Learn," the first leak from the EP. The song boasts full-bodied production, rich acoustic guitars and, as always, a keen pop sensibility.

Thanks to The Fader for the tip.

Bretzer is set to perform at Sled Island in Calgary, which runs from June 19 to 22.
