Ed Sheeran is on pace to break U2's record for the highest grossing tour of all time tonight.
According to Pollstar's calculations, the UK singer-songwriter will surpass the Irish band's record of $735.4 million USD for their "360 Tour," earning $736.7 million USD.
Sheeran has been on the "Divide Tour" for a whopping 245 shows, and will perform the 246th tonight in Hanover, Germany. He'll end with a total tally of 255 shows when he wraps up the tour with a homeland stint in Ipswitch, UK, from August 23 to 26.
There are a few differences between U2's previous record and Sheeran's soon-to-be-current — U2's ticket prices were much higher and they only played 110, so Sheeran will be playing more than twice as many gigs and selling cheaper tickets.
On average, Sheeran has been performing to an average of 34,541 paying customers per show, whereas U2 were playing to average crowds of 66,091 each night.
Sheeran previously broke the record for the highest grossing tour year in 2018.
He also broke the record for the most attended tour of all time back in May, surpassing U2's previous record with 7,315,970 concertgoers. It's expected that 8.5 million people will have attended Sheeran's tour by the time it ends.
