Eclipse Eternal

Reign of the Unholy Blackened Empire

BY Laura TaylorPublished Apr 1, 2005

Epically evil, Eclipse Eternal’s Galy Records debut has moments of sheer torrential violence, but never strays far beyond the reach of melodic leads and atmospheric keyboards. The song names on Reign of the Unholy Blackened Empire are as delightfully descriptive as the album’s title — "Sacrifice Love to the Gods of Hate,” "Infested with the Human Disease,” and "Murder as Art,” to name a few. A warlike climate pervades the recording, expressing itself in elements like the military drum beat introducing the title track or in the battle cry of "Storming the Pearly Gates.” Reign of the Unholy Blackened Empire unfolds like a demoniacal opera, and with it Eclipse Eternal has crafted an apocalyptic celebration of darkness and death, black metal of symphonic proportions.
