While it's only been a couple of weeks since chill Brighton-based goth wave outfit Esben and the Witch issued their "Marching Song" single on Matador Records, the group are already giving us the dirt on their debut full-length, which drops early next year.
Titled Violent Cries, the album promises to further explore the dank tribal drums, washed-out guitars and singer Rachel Davies's spectral coo that were teased on "Marching Song." Though a tracklisting hasn't been released, Matador has leaked album track "Warpath," which can be downloaded here on its blog.
Considering Violent Cries' mid-winter release date of February 8, the preview track fittingly fractures frigid, pre-programmed beats with Sisters of Mercy-issued guitar swells and a breakdown of freaky ghost moanings. This is shaping up to be one of those albums that'll keep us equally creeped out and enraptured during the upcoming cold season.
