DZ Deathrays Announce Sophomore Album, Share New Single

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 24, 2014

Garage-rocking Aussie duo DZ Deathrays earned plenty of attention with their 2012 debut Bloodstreams, and now they've announced plans to follow it up with their sophomore album. Black Rat will be out in Canada on May 6 through Dine Alone Records.

The songs were written in a remote part of New South Wales in Australia, with recording eventually taking place at the Grove Studios outside of Sydney. The six-week sessions were helmed by Burke Reid, with recording often taking place in the dead of night.

"It was intense, but great," singer-guitarist Shane Parsons said in a statement. "We'd come up with stuff at 3:30 in the morning that we wouldn't have thought of otherwise; we'd be a bit delirious and that helped us let our guard down."

There are 11 songs and a total runtime of 39 minutes. The tracklist is below and the album cover is above. The fuzzily melodic "Gina Works at Hearts" is streaming at the bottom of this page.

The Australian pre-order is already underway on DZ Deathrays' website, with the Canadian pre-order due to launch on March 4.
