The Dwarves

The Dwarves Must Die

BY Rod OrchardPublished Sep 1, 2004

I'll admit I've never really been into the Dwarves (besides their great covers), but their reputation as an insane live band has always intrigued me. Not having heard their past slabs, I was expecting some GG Allin insanity with lyrics about shitting in a crippled baby's mouth or something, but was surprised at how melodic they are. They have a great sense of humour and go from early ’80s fastcore, to rap parody and back to solid, melodic punk that even I can dig. You hear Iggy Pop, Frank Zappa and maybe D.I., for lack of a better reference. These are people who know that there's more to punk than how good you look. Those who know, will love this.
