The Dry Spells Too Soon for Flowers

The Dry Spells Too Soon for Flowers
Coming out of the same San Francisco scene that produced Vetiver, and featuring members of Citay, the Dry Spells mix traditional Celtic-folk harmonies with a slightly jammy electric rock sound to create a unique vibe. Soaring over top of this strange-on-paper sound are the twin lead vocals of Tahlia Harbour and April Hayley, who manage to sing off-key in harmony, creating yet another element of sound to revel in. The melodies are truly bewitching — witness the "oo-oo-woo-oo" harmonies that drive second track "Black is the Color." Of course, none of this would work without the driving, tom-heavy drumming of Ezra Feinberg and Raphi Gottessman. Too Soon For Flowers is an impressive debut that transcends the folk genre on which the band's music is based. (Antenna Farm)
