Drunken Bastards

Horns of the Wasted

BY Greg PrattPublished Jun 21, 2010

This one is nothing if not a bunch of awesome surprises. First off, it's on the totally ruling Hell's Headbangers, but it's not crazy nuclear raw blackened death thrash. Instead, it sounds, for the most part, like the classic crossover of the Accused. The name of the band and joke-y song titles bring to mind sloppy, novelty, drunken thrash, but these cats can play, as tunes like, ahem, "Drink with Satan" prove, the riffing coming fast and furious, way more Kreator than Tankard. Then there are songs like "Destroy the Factory (Eat My Fuk)," which sound like the hardcore d-beat of (non-new album) Coliseum. There are also thrash revival moments throughout this 19-minute EP/very short album, especially in the humorous delivery. Combine all that with an excellent, crisp, clear production and this is one great EP/very short album, one that has way more potential than the cover art would lead anyone to believe.
