Dream City Film Club

In the Cold Light of Morning

Not much different than their previous release, Perfect Piece of Trash, which makes this album a bit of a disappointment. Having gone through a line-up change might be a partial reason their music hasn’t evolved as much as one would expect. Still, the sonic gothic noise and collection of gut busting sounds does make album number two (in North America) adequate fare. Dream City Film Club still show their influences a little too heavily, as found on “Spitting & Stumbling,” the spitting image of any number of Bauhaus tunes. It can be refreshing to have a band do their own take on Bauhaus and this band do it well. There is no denying the fact that they are harsh, gothic and charming. What is lacking is the fact that they didn’t attempt to stretch themselves musically with this release. If you liked their splendid debut, their second album will definitely appeal to you.
