Published May 19, 2011Drake's no stranger to dream collaborations. Over the past several months, we've learned that the Canuck hip-hop star has been working in the studio with Rick Ross, Soulja Boy, Florence Welch and more for a handful of tracks. On top of that, dude has been hyping energy strips with LeBron James and kicking it with the cast of Ice Age. With all those friends, it's unsurprising to learn that Drizzy's been working with yet another artist in the studio. This time, it's fellow T-dot musician the Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye).
Last night (May 18), Drake confirmed on his Twitter that he was working with the dirty-minded, soft-singing creator of House of Balloons.
"Studio with @theweekndxo…young kings," Dake tweeted.
Clearly there's a lot of love between the two artists. You may remember that the hype machine was flung into full force by Drake, who tipped people off to Tesfaye's enigmatic tunes late last year. A video clip from a Juno after-party last March, which you can see below, finds Drake repping the singer, admitting that he loves the Weeknd "with all my heart," and tells the crowd to download House of Balloons when they get home.
No word on what the pair got accomplished in the studio, but we'll keep our ears perked.
Thanks to the Daily Swarm for the tip.
UPDATE: As Pitchfork points out, the Weeknd have two more mixtapes due out this year. One called Thursdays will be released this summer, while another dubbed Echoes of Silence will drop in the fall.
