Drake Postpones "Summer Sixteen" Tour Dates, Including Toronto, Due to Ankle Injury

BY Calum SlingerlandPublished Oct 5, 2016

Whether it be special guests at every tour date or minor jewellery heists, Drake's current "Summer Sixteen Tour" certainly hasn't been short on surprises. The news from the road isn't all good though, with the rap titan being forced to miss three dates with an injured ankle, and this includes the shows in Toronto.

The rapper revealed news of the injury through an expressive, all-caps post on the OVO blog

"WE ARE OVER 50 SHOWS IN AND I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING TO POWER THROUGH MY RECENT ANKLE INJURY AND LEAVE IT ALL OUT THERE ON THE STAGE EVERY NIGHT," he wrote. "I HATE TO BE TOLD I CAN'T DO SOMETHING, BUT UNDER DOCTOR'S ORDERS TO ALLOW ME TIME TO RECUPERATE, I AM BEING FORCED TO POSTPONE THE INTENSE THREE SHOWS IN A ROW IN CITIES WHICH HAVE ONLY EVER SHOWN ME UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT."

The injury affects the upcoming October 9 date in Toronto this weekend, as well as the show on October 13 in Philadelphia and the October 15 show in Newark.

"I WAS ASKED TO POSTPONE BOTH NEWARK SHOWS," he wrote. "BUT I HAVE YET TO PERFORM THERE AND SO WE COMPROMISED AT ONE."

Tonight's (October 5) show in Chicago will also go ahead as planned, as will the Montreal concert on October 7 and the Toronto show on October 8. However, strangely enough — and coming as something as burn to Toronto — Drake will apparently still play his shows scheduled in Brooklyn on October 11 and 12 at Barclays Center.

UPDATE (10/11, 10:45 a.m. EDT): Drake has now postponed the remaining dates on his North American tour due to his injury. You can see the updated schedule below, which also includes a forthcoming trip in the UK and Europe.

He continued: "I FEEL LIKE I AM LETTING MY FANS IN THESE CITIES DOWN. I ONLY WANT TO GIVE YOU THE BEST SHOW YOU DESERVE, I PROMISE — I WILL MAKE IT UP TO YOU. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN WITH NEW MUSIC AND A STRONGER ANKLE."

You can read Drake's entire statement below.

In the meantime, we advise him to keep the ankle elevated and on ice, and to perhaps schedule a Drake Yoga session for some further healing.
