Dr. Dre's Detox Delayed... Again

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Nov 25, 2008

Dr. Dre’s very own Chinese Democracy, the long-awaited Detox, has once again been delayed, news that should come as no surprise to anyone.

The last we heard the hip-hop production wiz was to drop his new studio full-length before the year’s end, but apparently Eminem’s "comeback album,” Relapse, has forced Dre to put his record on hold yet again.

According to a Billboard report and Eminem himself, the Dre-produced Relapse is taking longer than expected, forcing the doctor away from completing his first solo offering since 1999’s 2001.

Now, Interscope/Geffen/A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine has told Billboard that Dre won’t resume working on Detox until at least January 2009, with no firm release date in sight for the record.

"He'll be finished with Eminem by then, and he'll finish his album," Iovine said. "Eminem was always coming next year. But what happened was, I lost Dr. Dre to Eminem. Dre had to stop making his album to finish Eminem's album.

"Eminem hit a streak, and when a guy like Eminem gets on fire, you stop everything. That's how we lost Dre."

Well, at least Eminem’s "on fire.”
