As a track from his possibly forthcoming album Detox, Dr. Dre's melodramatic "I Need a Doctor" now has a full music video. Unfortunately, while the single definitely has a shit ton of pop appeal, it lacks any of the gritty energy that made age-old Dre and Eminem tracks so addictive. At this point, rappers may as well be rapping about their feelings over a '90s Lilith Fair compilation.
Anyway, the video itself is the sort of high-budget, vaguely mystical work that fits in well with the current zeitgeist. After a tragic car accident, the body of Skylar Grey sees her ghost hovering over her as she sings the hook. Eminem raps angrily behind her body while Dr. Dre is immersed in a water tank before being nursed back to life just in time for his verse. All the while, clips of NWA and Eminem's early career are interspersed.
