Dr. Dog are ready to release a new album — sort of. The psych- and roots-dabbling Pennsylvanian outfit have re-recorded their once cassette-only debut, The Psychedelic Swamp, and the update will hit stores on February 5 via Anti-.
A press release explains that the material began to take shape "in the waning days of our previous millennium," with the band having formed in 1999. The Psychedelic Swamp had been self-recorded and self-released on cassette in 2001 but quickly went out of print. That said, the songs have surfaced online and via bootlegs over the years.
For this new take on The Psychedelic Swamp, Dr. Dog returned to their Mr. Slippery studio to re-record the collection — a concept album about a traveller named Phrases that comes across a tape from outer space, which apparently needs to be reinterpreted and recorded by Dr. Dog.
The updated Psychedelic Swamp's "Bring My Baby Back" is streaming now, courtesy of Vulture. You'll find it below, where you can also check out Dr. Dog's upcoming tour schedule. It includes Canadian stops in Vancouver and Toronto.
