Down To Nothing Life on the James

Down To Nothing Life on the James

Down To Nothing are one of hardcore's most consistent bands. It's even more impressive that they manage to pump out quality release after quality release while members are also busy full-time in Terror and, until recently, Trapped Under Ice. On their latest, Life on the James, the Richmond, VA straightedge band continue to go punch for punch with their day jobs' recent output. Admittedly, Down To Nothing are less metallic than Terror and less NYHC-influenced than TUI, but they're also more fun. They trade those influences for a more punk approach, as with the Pennywise-influenced title track. The punk aesthetic is noticeably missing in the production, as the glossy sheen, courtesy of Terror's Nick Jett, is almost blinding, at times. It's a shame that Life on the James came out in the fall because it would have made a gnarly soundtrack to a summer day of skateboarding. (Revelation)
