Donovan Woods Shares Video for "Grew Apart"

Donovan Woods made a prescient decision to drop single "Grew Apart" before the time of physical distancing, and he's now shared a video for the song.

Shot in Toronto, the clip cuts between a protagonist in reflection following a breakup, and Woods in discussion of how to move forward in a healthy, constructive manner.

"We wanted to tell a story in the video about men trying to help each other, and fucking it up, but trying," Woods said of the clip. "Men seem to think that there's some physical trial we need to put ourselves through when we're lovesick — drinking, fighting. The wrongheadedness of that idea is on display here. So often it feels like we can't escape those breakup clichés. The song and the video are about why that might be."

The video for "Grew Apart" was produced by Cherie Sinclair (Big Sean, Carly Rae Jepsen) and directed by Woods's longtime collaborator Ryley Burghall.

Woods recently told Exclaim! about how he's coping with isolation, which has included work on a new album and watching Tiger King.

This Saturday (April 11), he'll join Jewel, Grouplove and more in the Human to Human Facebook livestream, benefiting PLUS1's COVID-19 relief fund in partnership with MusiCares and Sweet Relief.

Last year, Woods released The Other Way, a reimagining of his 2018 LP Both Ways.
