Two years after long-lost Washington pop duo Donnie & Joe Emerson's cult LP Dreamin' Wild was spotlighted with a much-deserved Light in the Attic reissue, the "Baby" singers' annals are being explored via a rarities collection dubbed Still Dreamin' Wild: The Lost Recordings 1979-81.
The collection, which arrives June 17 through Light in the Attic, features a number of tunes recorded onto an 8-track by the pair at their farm studio in Fruitland, WA, with a press release noting the duo's compositions jump everywhere from new wave to power pop to FM rock. This compiles everything from the second song Donnie Emerson had ever written ("Everybody Knows It") to tracks influenced by a temporary move to L.A.
Lyrically, Still Dreamin' Wild has Donnie reflecting on a life in which "teenage dreams turn to painful yearning." "Ooh Baby Yeah," for instance, is said to flirt with ideas of young love, while "Don't Disguise the Way You Feel" reflects on life after high school, the death of a friend, and the feeling of isolation from living in a farm community. Down below, you'll find the drum machine-driven slice of heartbroken synth pop, "Ride the Tide."
The 12-song set has been remastered from the original tapes and will arrive in LP, CD and digital editions. The liner notes include an interview with Donnie and Joe, conducted by Jack D. Fleischer, the record collector that discovered the pair's Dreamin' Wild at a Spokane thrift shop and put the focus on the undiscovered duo.
The vinyl version comes in a "Stoughton 'Tip-On' gatefold jacket," with variations appearing on "Snow White," "Baby Blue" and "Red/Black Shag" coloured vinyl.
