Donkey

Show

BY I. KhiderPublished Jul 1, 2001

Despite the tough expression of the composers on the cover of Show, the music on this CD stems from the improvised realm of music comprised of keyboards, guitars, clarinets, violin, electronics and turntables. Show opens with a series of electronic modulations that sounds like a ray-gun attack straight out of War of the Worlds, then gets subterranean and echo-like, as if the humans were retreating into a sewer system. Other tracks are more traditional improv, with ramblings of clarinet and guitar, while other parts sound like a UFO landing near a desolate stretch of Arizona highway. I got the impression while listening to Donkey that an affinity for B-movie soundtracks lurked on these compositions. The old Twilight Zone special effects crew could have used elements from this album.
