Donald Glover Cast as Lando Calrissian in Han Solo 'Star Wars' Film

Just one day after he blessed us with some Stranger Things raps, actor, comedian and musician Donald Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino) is officially entering the Star Wars universe.

As previously reported, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are currently working on a standalone Han Solo movie, with Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich taking on the starring role. Now, Glover is stepping in to play the iconic character of Lando Calrissian.

The news was announced directly by Lucasfilm, explaining that Glover will depict Lando "in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy's underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strike Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi."

Discussing the casting news, Lord and Miller said, "We're so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us. These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we'd like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever."

The Han Solo movie is set to arrive in the spring of 2018.
