Domino Set To Release New Optimo Mix

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Sep 30, 2008

After over a decade behind the decks at one of the UK’s hippest clubs, JD Twitch and JG Wilkes, aka Optimo, know a thing or two about stringing together a mix good and proper. Yet unlike the usual floor-fillers, shakers and straight-up bangers they’d spin on a typical Saturday night, the pair are switching it up on their forthcoming mix for Domino. Titled Sleepwalk, the 19-track comp is a mix "for your mind’s eye,” as Domino puts it, translating to mean Optimo are getting on heady on us with this release, due out in the UK on October 27.

In the words of the press release: "Just as genre defying as the tracks you’d hear on the dance floor, Sleepwalk comes across like a beautiful blur. Not so much soft focus as a misted up lens. Drifting across the mix is Damon’s Gypsy psyche, bucolic analogue ennui from mid-70s Germany, Lee Hazelwood at his most dissolute and intoxicated, Duke Ellington played straight, Arthur Russell and Karen Dalton juxtaposed as spectral songwriters, and a whole lot of fragments of considered musical beauty.”

Also on the mix, you can find everything from the dark-synth-fuelled Tuxedomoon and Nurse With Wound to the sonic shapeshifting Glaswegian Future Pilot AKA to, um, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

There is no word yet on any possible North American release, but the mix can still be ordered from Domino’s UK shop.
