Dog Day Return with New Seven-Inch

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 23, 2011

Though Dog Day's lineup has fluctuated over the years, the Halifax outfit have always dished up some enchanting if somewhat gloomy pop jams. Currently pared down to the couple of Seth Smith and Nancy Urich, Dog Day are furthering their foray into bittersweet rock with their new seven-inch The Scratches.

A press release explains that the three-song set features a stripped-down sound similar to their 2005 debut EP Thank You, eschewing the luscious soundscapes of 2009's Concentration for a grittier guitar-and-drums feel.

You can check out the ragged A-side, "Scratches," complete with bittersweet chord progressions and a mopey duet between the members, over here. The seven-inch will be released on March 22 via Noyes Records.

Dog Day are also prepping a new full-length, which will appear sometime this year. It's unclear whether or not any of the tracks from The Scratches will make an appearance on the album, however.

To celebrate both feats, Dog Day will be making a short trip to South by Southwest and back. All dates can be seen below.
