Last fall, acclaimed turntablist and producer DJ Shadow explained that a new album was tentatively on the way for May 2011. Well, it's now May 2011, and there's still no Shadow record. Fortunately, there is an album announcement, as well as a new EP set to drop this month.

Speaking with BBC Radio's Zane Low [via Some Kind of Awesome], DJ Shadow revealed that his new album is called The Less You Know the Better and will be available on September 5 (presumably September 6 in North America).

That's a long time to wait if you're a DJ Shadow fan, but to tide followers over, the producer is releasing a new digital EP called I Gotta Rokk on May 17 via Universal.

According to the Amazon page for the release, the six-song EP includes the brand new title track, as well as last year's "I've Been Trying" and "Def Surrounds Us." The release is rounded out by remixes of each track for a total running time of 35 minutes. "I Gotta Rokk" can be streamed below.
