DJ Premier and Pete Rock Shed More Light on Collaborative Album

Good news, hip-hop heads: legendary beatsmiths DJ Premier and Pete Rock are getting closer to completing their collaborative LP. While both artists recently worked on Kanye West's upcoming My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, this will be their first time working together on their own joint effort.

According to an interview with Beats, Boxing and Mayhem [via Consequence of Sound], the 12-track album sees each artist producing six tracks with guest rappers. While some collaborative LPs have two artists merging their talents, Premier and Rock are staying so separate that their tracks are even a secret from each other.

"Pete came to my studio and laid one of them with one of the artists," Premier revealed, confessing, "I took sneak listen and the shit sounds hot. He doesn't even know I heard it, but that's what he gets for doing a session in my studio."

DJ Premier kept his list of guest spots heavily guarded in his interview; however, he did reveal that Wu-Tang hero GZA laid down some vocals for one of his tracks. As for the other collaborators, he simply said, "It's rare artists in the industry where everyone is going to be like, 'oh shit, how'd you get with him?'"

The Premier/Pete Rock collaboration does not have a title, release date or tracklisting just yet, but the duo expect to finish recording it by the end of the year. DJ Premier will also drop a new compilation called Get Used to Us on December 7 via Year Round Records.
