Africanism

BY Philip DowneyPublished May 1, 2003

House meets The Lion King. That’s about as nice as I can get. This double CD has been praised in other parts, and has apparently sold more than 100,000 copies, but I just can’t get my head around it. As a matter of fact, I could barely get through either disc in a single sitting. If you like wussy house beats, with pseudo-African drums smothered on top, lame-ass bongos, and "tropical” horns, by all means, buy this. Otherwise, avoid it like SARS.
