Born Adam Goldstein, the musician was found dead in his New York City apartment today (August 28) around 5:20 p.m. local time, reports TMZ, who were told by law enforcement officials that drug paraphernalia was found at the scene.
According to TMZ, DJ AM had cut off contact from all family and friends during the last few days. Eventually, friends went to his apartment to check on him but received no response, leading them to call police. When officers broke down the door, DJ AM was found dead.
DJ AM made headlines last year when he barely escaped death in a small plane crash in South Carolina. He was on board with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and was badly burned in the incident. All other passengers on the plane died in the crash.
As of press time, no other details of DJ AM's death have emerged, but police are reportedly looking into the possibility of a drug overdose.
