The Dismemberment Plan

A People's History of...

Not ones to go out quietly, the most innovative and ass-wigglingly funky post-punk indie pop outfits out of the DC scene follow their all-request farewell tour with a posthumous remix album culled from dozens of fan submissions. Having posted the raw audio tracks from their entire catalogue on their website for downloading, the band invited Pro Tools literate mix masters to mix and mash the tracks and spit them back in the band's face. The 12 tracks here represent those creative reinterpretations that struck the band most deeply. Fans of the source material will recognise elements of the mash-ups on all tracks, but some bear no resemblance whatsoever to the original songs. Standouts include the Aphex Twin-sounding version of "Academy Award" by Cex and Grandmaster Incongruous's pumped-up "Pay for the Piano.” As enjoyable as it is, though, this one is strictly one for the fans.
