Engage The Mechanicality

BY Denise FalzonPublished Nov 9, 2010

Topeka, KS's Diskreet return in full force on new album Engage The Mechanicality. With this follow-up to their 2007 debut, Infernal Rise, the death metal/grind band step up their technical brutality, bringing it to a whole new level of intensity. "Valley of Kings" starts the record off with blazing, grind-infused guitar work and hammering blast beats, a formula that's carried throughout the album. But Engage The Mechanicality never gets tedious, as unorthodox structures, bombshell solos and sporadic time signatures pop up at the perfect moments. Diskreet have also improved their game by bringing on ferocious new vocalist Stephen Babcock, whose utterly brutal roars can only be described as inhuman. These amazing vocals blend well with the rest of the band's super-tight musicianship and their well-written tracks show a refreshing take on the genre. Engage The Mechanicality is a masterpiece of modern death metal.
