Disappears Announce New Guider LP on Kranky

BY Josiah HughesPublished Nov 18, 2010

Earlier this year, experimental Krautrock/garage trio Disappears released Lux, their debut album. The record drew international acclaim to the Chicago, IL-based band, inspiring multiple tours. Amidst it all, they managed to record another album and will return with Guider early next year.

As a press release explains, "'Guider' means to control or influence, which is what all the songs ended up being about in one form or another. This is a heads down, blinders on, damn the distractions, forward driving, controlled squall. Drop the needle, turn up the volume and surrender to the delicious."

Guider will be released by Kranky on January 17. The album's title track can be streamed on the band's MySpace page, while a brief making-of clip can be streamed below.

In addition to the new record, the band have announced that founding drummer Graeme Gibson has amicably quit the band. For their upcoming shows, Gibson will be replaced by Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley. All currently scheduled tour dates are below, with a full European schedule on its way.

Guider:

1. "Superstition"
2. "Not Romantic"
3. "Halo"
