Published Jan 16, 2012Not too long ago, famed Canadian director Bruce McDonald brought indie rock to cinemas with his Broken Social Scene flick This Movie Is Broken. Now, the director is planning to give Stars a similar treatment.
In an interview with the Chronicle Herald [via The Playlist], McDonald revealed that the feature will be based around Stars' forthcoming album, which will evidently be called Those Days Are Gone. Like This Movie Is Broken, this film looks to be based around a fictional storyline set against the backdrop of the band's music.
It won't be a concert movie, however, and it's so far unclear to what extent the band will appear in the flick. "They might have a part in it," he revealed.
The script was penned by Magnetic Fields collaborator Daniel Handler, aka children's author Lemony Snicket. Interestingly, Handler previously penned a short story that appeared in the liner notes of Stars' 2007 effort In Our Bedroom After the War. He also played accordion on the song "Barricade" from that same album.
There's no word as to when or where filming will take place, but we can expect to hear more updates about the movie (plus Stars' new album) soon.
