Diplo Invests in Arizona Soccer Team

Diplo's known in the music world for churning out hits with Jack Ü and Major Lazer, not to mention his countless catalogue of high-profile collaborations with the likes of Justin Bieber, Madonna and Robert Plant just to name a few. Now, it seems he's taking that spirit of teamwork into the realm of sports.

Leading a group made up of other artists and executives, Diplo has financially invested in the Arizona United Soccer Club. The syndicate have purchased a minority equity stake in the United Soccer League team, also securing a seat on the club's board of directors.

"I've been really fortunate to travel all over the world and experience different cultures through music. Wherever I am, Jamaica, Spain, England, China, etc., soccer is a social constant," Diplo said in a press release. "I wanted to figure out a way to get involved with the game and team sports so when Arizona United presented itself, I immediately jumped at the opportunity. I see soccer the same way I see music, as a connective tissue linking the world's cultures."

Arizona United SC co-chairmen Kyle Eng and Brett M. Johnson offered: "Diplo, throughout his music career as a DJ, producer and artist, has always been about global culture, youth culture and inclusiveness, and we couldn't think of a better match to fit our core demographic and to wrap our team around. The number of ways we can work together to grow the Arizona United SC brand is unlimited with a partner like Diplo."

The team was founded in 2014 and will kick off their 2016 season on March 23.

In other news regarding Diplo's investments, the producer recently revealed that he also regularly contributes funds to Red Emma's anarchist bookstore in Baltimore.
