Diplo Expands and Reissues Debut Album, Shares Unreleased Track

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 7, 2014

Before Diplo made it big in the EDM world, he introduced himself with his studio debut in 2004 with the album Florida. With that album turning 10 this year, he will be celebrating the milestone with an expanded reissue. It drops on Black Friday (November 28) on Big Dada.

This reissue will come with five previously unreleased tracks and in a bundle with 2003's Epistemology Suite EP.

"I made Florida between a small apartment in Philadelphia and my mother's house in Florida," Diplo said in a statement [via Rolling Stone]. "I was working late nights and taking a bus through the city every night, smoking weed, putting on headphones and just making things I never heard before and could just imagine. Making this record created an entirely new world for me."

In the player below, hear one of the unreleased songs, "As I Lay Dying." It's a beat-heavy number that uses some of the same airy synth sounds as album cut "Into the Sun" (which is also in the same player below). While this one has some punchy drum machines, it showcases a sound that's a little less hyperactively twerk-friendly than Diplo's current productions.

These days, meanwhile, Diplo has been working with Skrillex under the banner Jack U, and he's producing tracks for Madonna's next album.
