Dinosaur Jr. Reissue First Three Albums as Cassette Box Set

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Nov 15, 2011

Earlier this fall, distortion-driven alt-rock icons Dinosaur Jr. had their first three albums reissued on vinyl by Jagjaguwar, but just in case you were angling for a different kind of analog nostalgia, those same recordings are now being packaged together in a new limited-edition cassette box set.

While Joyful Noise repressed 1988's Bug on the retro format last June, the label will now package that album with 1985's Dinosaur and its 1987 follow-up You're Living All Over Me in a custom-built, hand-screened wooden box emblazoned with the group's old "monster" logo. You can check it out in the picture above.

The cassettes themselves are delivered on "high-quality chrome tape with purple, black, and white shells," and each album features the original artwork.

A bonus to the set, which is limited to 500, is that randomly selected packages will include a bonus cassette of Sebadoh's debut Weed Forestin', which was also included as a freebie with the original pressings of You're Living All Over Me. Only 50 copies of the Lou Barlow side-project's cassette have been pressed, but the label outlines that you have a one in ten chance of getting the extra goods.

You can order the set now here, or potentially grab the box at Dinosaur Jr.'s upcoming West Coast performances, which oddly also include an interview conducted by Henry Rollins. You can check the schedule below.
